About the Project

2007 is the year that the Chicago Church of Christ celebrates its 25 year anniversary. For several years many in the church have had a dream of either producing a CD together or producing their own works. Indeed several have produced their own. Shawn Christopher put out her CD entitled Drink From the Fountain. Euclid Gray put out his own CD entitled Ghetto Gospel Man. Steve Pederson put out his own CD entitled Au Naturale. Others have put out CDs, singles and still others are working on their own projects. And, of course, let's not forget the One Heart CD put out by Pure Music several years ago.

In particular, one brother has had a dream for a compilation CD that would represent the wide variety of talent and stylistic genres of the entire church. He says, "I feel like God has put this dream on my heart for many years - it keeps coming back. Then, when I considered the fact that this is the 25th Anniversary of the church, it just made sense to make it a commemorative CD."

With that in mind, the idea of this CD is to represent not only the variety of talent and stylistic genres that make up the church, but also the rich musical heritage that has meant so much to the church over its 25 year history. This CD will be featuring original songs or original arrangements of hymns in the public domain which have been favorites of the church over the years. In addition a few original new songs will be featured which highlight the theme of celebrating 25 years together.

The idea for the theme "Through Water and Fire" came about as a result of considering two things that have significant relevance to both the City of Chicago and the Chicago Church of Christ. Water is significant to the city in that Chicago is bordered by Lake Michigan, and it is important to the church, as it signifies baptism. Fire, for the city of Chicago, brings up the story of the Great Chicago Fire. For the church, fire represents the refining discipline of God, which we have definitely been through together.
